Health and well-being of health professionals: a look at suicidal ideation
The mental health of health professionals has become increasingly important, given the increase in burnout, moral distress, emotional exhaustion and, in more serious situations, suicidal intentions. These phenomena result from a complex interaction between high work demands, demanding organizational contexts, continuous exposure to human suffering and a professional culture that tends to value resilience over the recognition of vulnerability.
This extended TEA proposes a critical reflection on the determinants of psychological suffering and suicidal risk in health professionals, as well as on the barriers to recognizing suffering and asking for help. The aim is also to discuss mental health promotion and prevention strategies from an integrated perspective that combines individual and institutional responsibility.
Objectives
– To discuss the mental health of health professionals, considering the factors associated with psychological distress and suicidal risk.
– To reflect on the barriers to recognizing distress and asking for help in a professional context.
– To help identify strategies for promoting mental health and prevention, involving professionals and institutions.
