Learning objectives and skills to be developed

Carry out a social and family assessment and establish nursing diagnosis(es), considering the family as the focus of care;
Plan care for and with the family, with a view to promoting their autonomy and preventing functional decline, whilst helping them to cope with suffering, pain and loss;
Describe the normal grieving process and distinguish it from pathological grief;
Reflect on therapeutic intervention with the patient and their family during the different stages of grief, recognising preventive measures regarding pathological grief;
Draw on evidence to provide a sound basis for developing the family-centred nursing process.
