Physiotherapy students “Forming Lung Guardians”

The Setúbal Municipal Library recently hosted a very special morning dedicated to health and learning. The activity “Formar Guardiões dos Pulmões” was the result of a partnership between The School of Health/Polytechnic University of Setúbal (ESS/IPS) and the Setúbal Municipal Library, with the aim of promoting the prevention and protection of the respiratory health of children in the municipality.
With winter approaching and respiratory infections in the spotlight at this time of year, students from the 3rd year of the Physiotherapy Degree Course at ESS/IPS, led by Professor Aldina Lucena, prepared interactive educational sessions aimed at students from the Salesiana School in Setúbal and the Azeda Primary School.
Among books, notebooks, games, “deep inspirations” and lots of magic, the morning was marked by moments of sharing and discovery, where the roles of teacher and pupil were constantly reversed.
The children learned in a fun way how to look after their lungs, while the future physiotherapists put their knowledge of health promotion into practice.
This initiative showed that “learning with joy” can be the secret to turning each new discovery into a reason to smile and grow.
In an atmosphere of true cooperation between higher education, primary and pre-school education, the “Forming Lung Guardians” project reinforced the importance of health education and joint learning.
“We will continue to work and grow together!” the organizers stressed, leaving open new opportunities for collaboration and sharing between Setúbal’s academic and educational community.
